Rock Art

#1
Rock Art is a two step coloring technique for knitwear inspired by the surface of natural rock. The method combines a light base dip with a controlled internal spray to create depth, shadow, and texture across the garment.

#2
The process starts with a uniform light tone applied through a short dip bath. This sets the base and prepares the fibers for the next stage. Once the garment is dry, operators use a high pressure airbrush to spray color from the inside of the sweater toward the outer surface. This direction of application places the darkest points near seams, edges, and areas where the knit structure naturally folds. The result is a gradient that resembles mineral layers and weathered stone.

#3
Rock Art works on all knit structures, including cables, ribs, and plain stitches. The direction of the spray highlights the pattern of the knit and adds contrast without covering the texture. Each sweater develops small variations due to differences in fiber density, tension, and movement during spraying. This gives the technique an artisanal touch while keeping visual consistency across a batch.

#4
The light dip and targeted spray keep the yarn soft and maintain breathability. The color does not saturate the core of the fibers, which preserves flexibility and hand feel.

#5
The visual focus of Rock Art is contrast, shadow, and a natural stone effect that emphasizes the shape of the garment. The technical focus is precise pressure, distance, and internal spraying to control where the darker tones settle.
