Soffio Powder Coloring Technique

Faded Soffio

#1

Faded Soffio is a surface coloring technique for knitwear that inverts the logic of the original Soffio process. Instead of applying a mist that settles lightly on the outer yarn, Faded Soffio pushes color from the inside of the garment toward the surface. The method creates a controlled build up of tone in areas where the knit structure is tighter, giving a defined yet natural contrast.

#2

The process starts with a neutral or mid tone base that prepares the fibers for internal coloring. Operators flip the style inside out before placing the item in the Soffio mist. The spray releases fine particles of pigment that travel outward through the knit. This distributes deeper color near seams, ribs, and structural points, while keeping more open areas lighter. The result is a visual pattern shaped by the architecture of the piece.

#3

Because the spray moves from the interior toward the surface, the garment absorbs little moisture and keeps its fiber stability and the softness of cashmere or merino. The color stays near the upper layers of the yarn and does not saturate the core.

#4

Small variations appear due to differences in tension and density across the knit. These variations are consistent within each batch and give the technique an artisanal edge. The process works well on pieces that have clear structural details such as raglan lines, shoulder links, or textured stitches. The internal direction of color application highlights these elements without flattening the texture.

#5

The visual focus of Faded Soffio is contrast shaped by construction. The technical focus is pressure control, position of the internal spray, and even movement inside the garment. The finish gives depth and definition while keeping the knit breathable and light. This method expands the Soffio family by adding a more graphic, structure oriented effect.
