Care Guide

A few habits that keep colour and shape.

Garment-dyed cotton voile shirt laid flat

Garment-dyed

Start with the label

A garment-dyed piece is coloured after it is made, so the colour lives in the fibre, the seams and the stitches together. A little attention keeps it that way.

The label inside the garment is specific to the fibre, and it always comes first. What follows is general guidance for our pieces.

The essentials

Washing

  • Wash inside out, on a cool, gentle cycle, with similar colours.
  • For the first washes, wash the piece on its own or with similar colours.
  • Cooler water still when the garment contains wool or elastane.
  • A mild detergent, no bleach.

Drying

  • Dry flat, in the shade.
  • Keep it away from radiators, direct heat and direct sun.
  • Never tumble dry.

Keeping knitwear

  • Keep knits folded rather than on a hanger, so the shoulders hold their shape.
  • If small pills appear where the fabric rubs, a knit comb lifts them gently.

About the colour

A colour that settles with time

Many of our pieces are coloured one at a time, after the garment is finished. Tones vary slightly from piece to piece, and from the photographs. Over time the colour may soften a little. That is the nature of garment dyeing, and part of how the piece becomes yours.

Questions

If you are unsure about anything, write to us with the product code on the label, and we will take care of it. If you register your piece, care notes arrive by email in the weeks that follow.
